I finally was able to see that yes, my Spirituality and my Creativity are one entity, not two distinct things that never meet.
One can’t go with the other. I wanted to learn more about Shamanism and the Medicine Wheel, I loved this side of the class.

I LOVED doing the journey work. As this course represented my first step onto my path as an artist it was the perfect introduction to get my ‘feet wet’ without freaking me out too much with technical artistic instructions etc. My background is in healing and spiritual work so having the entry point of shamanism allowed me to believe that I could do it, that I had some experience to bring to the course that would help me to open up more to being creative. I received some very powerful medicine whilst in the journeys that I am still processing, after which I intend to go ‘around the wheel’ and begin honouring the medicine by creating some art pieces. So, yes, the journey work and being a member of the online community, and feeling that I was now conquering my creative fears and actually doing it!

I’ve painted more than 30 canvases since the start of VQ. I’ve filled at least one sketchbook. I’ve been learning more about animal guides and ancestral spirits, and am finding more connectedness in my life now. The encouragement to let go and to let meaning come through me has been liberating. The structure led to my own daily art practice, and that’s worth more to my soul than I can ever convey.

I was concerned that i would feel that I needed to know more about Shamanism to enjoy this class, but it was presented in a way that I could take what worked for me and integrate slowly – I am 54 and not likely to start down a whole new path – I am more of a synthesis person – I have gone deep into certain paths and now as I age, I feel like my path is more of a synthesis of many spiritual paths…and I enjoyed very very much the natural world focus of the teachings. Loved hanging out with Pixie and Michelle and Jen and painting from my soul…what’s not to like!

Visual Quest opened me to finding more spiritual connections ~ in art, in circles, and in my life.

Learning to journey with power / totem animals and using the shamanic trance state to paint and allow Spirit to assist and come forward through the painting process was incredible. I LOVED this!

Before Visual Quest, I was someone who said “I’m not creative.” Through this experience, I came to see myself as a creative being and I now recognize ALL of the aspects of my life where I do express it- my writing, home-making, journaling, photography, etc. By honoring my creative spirit, I’ve been able to allow new ideas to flow through me- not just with paint- but through writing, community building, volunteering. I would say that VQ reacquainted me with myself, and encouraged me to live a very full, expressive life.

The best part? There I was standing before my canvas with brush in hand ready to let out all of my spiritual artful expression of my journey. I loved how there was no right or wrong. I loved that this class was for both artists and not-yet artists. I loved the support and encouragement.

What I loved most was becoming convinced that being an artist has nothing to do with academic training—but with being brave enough to jump into something and let go of results.
